THREADS

Important News

Needle Necessities overdyed floss threads are no longer available. We have however been able to obtain exactly the same threads, dyed in the same way from another supplier. These threads go under the brand name of Threadworx, the numbers and descriptions of each thread are different but the colours and dyes are the same. Both threads are £2.90 per skein.

Overdyed Floss

Overdyed Floss is a fine Egyptian cotton that has been overdyed by hand to create subtle shading. It is often vari-coloured but approximately 65% of the 171 colours is primarily within a colour family. Upon opening your skein you will notice the colouring is unevenly “bled” from one shade/colour to the next. This is done to give you a smooth transition of colour in your stitching, especially for shading. 20 yards (18.30 metres) per skein.

Fine Calico

This is the best Calico we have found and is used as the background material to most of Kay's work. It is soft enough to be used for slips and is easily painted or dyed.

Felt

Do not get this felt confused with the cheap synthetic felts which are too hard for stumpwork. This felt is a very soft wool/viscose mix. Extensively used as a padding either layered or filled with polyester filling. The beige and white will cover most situations. We have a small amount of red at the moment.
